Brief. Using the existing structure & considering the restrictions of the façade, landscape, and back end floor levels: design two residential units for expat families living in Florence.

Concept. One building, two residential units and two families living mirrored lives, one wall apart. How the carving out of a box could mold family behavior, with the kitchen as the heart of the house.

Description. By submerging the kitchen, and creating rising platforms after it, I had created a centralized space that didn't need to be closed off, and provided room for family members to carry out activities while remaining close by. A circulating staircase rises above and around the kitchen all the way to the roof to give a sense of visibility & intimacy, even when far.
